ADI launches multi-core SHARC + ARMSOC to improve real-time audio and video applications

Beijing, China-Analog Devices , Inc., the world's leading provider of high-performance signal processing solutions, has recently launched eight SHARC® processors, which are part of its new series of high-performance, energy-efficient real-time processors. Two enhanced SHARC + ® cores and advanced DSP accelerators (FFT, FIR, IIR) with peak performance exceeding 24 Gigabit floating point operations per second. The ADSP-SC58x and ADSP-2158x series consume less than 2 watts at high temperatures, making the new processor series more than five times the energy efficiency of previous SHARC products in energy efficiency, and more than double the most powerful competitive processors. This advantage can lead to industry-leading digital signal processing performance in applications where thermal management limits power consumption or cannot tolerate high-cost, low-reliability fans. Applications include automotive, consumer and professional audio, multi-axis motor control, energy distribution systems, etc.

The ADSP-SC58x products complement the SHARC + core and DSP accelerator series, and add an ARM® Cortex-A5 processor. The FPU and Neon® DSP extended instruction sets can handle additional real-time processing tasks and manage peripherals to connect audio , Industrial closed-loop control and time-critical data in industrial inspection applications. These interfaces include Gigabit Ethernet interface (supports AVB and IEEE-1588), high-speed USB interface, mobile storage (including SD / SDIO), PCI Express, and a variety of other connection options, which can create a flexible and streamlined system design.

The ADSP-2158x series (not including the ARM Cortex-A5 core) is intended for applications that generally require DSP coprocessors, including two SHARC + cores and DSP accelerators, and a set of peripherals that match the core.

Against the backdrop of software intellectual property protection becoming a major security concern in the industry, we have also introduced ARM® TrustZone® security features and an onboard encryption hardware accelerator. For applications where reliability is critical, data integrity can be improved through memory parity and error correction hardware.

The new ADSP-SC58x and ADSP-2158x series have the characteristics of high integration and low power consumption, which can greatly reduce the material cost and circuit board footprint, reduce the design complexity, and shorten the time to market for today's complex applications.
